Pool Leak Detection Specialists

If your swimming pool is losing water, you need specialist pool leak detection, not a general plumber. At Fornez Leak Detection, we focus exclusively on domestic pools across Durban, Ballito and Umhlanga. Using acoustic technology, pressure testing and tracer gas, we pinpoint leaks in pool shells, underground plumbing, skimmers and return lines without breaking tiles or paving.

Most home pools in KZN lose water from multiple small leaks, not one big crack. Our job is to find them all.

Why Choose a Pool Specialist

Most leak detection companies in South Africa come from a plumbing background. We are different. We built our business on swimming pools, which means we understand pool construction, circulation systems and how KZN soil movement affect pool shell structures.

Our leak detection equipment is also pool-specific. We use custom-built underwater microphones, low-pressure air rigs for delicate PVC, and wireless acoustic headphones that let us hear a leak through 300mm of concrete. Generic plumbing gear cannot do this.

Our Domestic Pool Leak Detection Process

Step 1: Pressure Testing

We isolate and pressure test each line – suction, returns, cleaner line and solar heating. A pressure drop tells us which pipe is leaking.

Step 2: Tracer Gas Detection

For underground pipes, we introduce a safe hydrogen-nitrogen tracer gas. Our sensitive sniffer detects gas escaping through paving or lawn, marking the exact spot within 10cm.

Step 3: Underwater Inspection

We dive the pool (no need to drain) and use dye testing around lights, skimmers, steps and cracks. This is critical for fibreglass and marbelite pools common in Ballito estates.

Step 4: Assessment Report

We provide a full report with photos of the results of our assessment that same day.

Step 5: Advise and Quote

We provide repair options and a quotation for those repairs that same day.

5 Signs You Need Pool Leak Detection

  1. Your pool drops more than 25mm per week
  2. Your municipal water bill has increased in Durban or Umhlanga
  3. Air bubbles constantly appear in the pump basket
  4. Damp patches or lush grass near the pool
  5. You are topping up more than twice a week

If you notice two or more, book a test. Small leaks become structural cracks in KZN’s clay soils.
